Q: What's new with you?

A: We're divorced.

Q: Wow, really?

A: Yes.

Q: That was kind of sudden (back in October '00), wasn't it?

A: Not really. We'd been trying to work out some problems for a couple of years, and just weren't able to. The move to California was, in part, in the hope that a change of scenery might help. It didn't.

Q: Do you want to talk about it?

A: Not especially.

Q: Wasn't this kind of awkward?

A: Yes. That's why we used this somewhat impersonal and non-interactive medium for telling you.

Q: Uh... I was going to invite you both to my Hallowe'en party.

A: That's not a question. But you still can. We're still good friends, we're just not in love. Socially, there's no reason to treat us differently from any other two friends who have had an amicable break-up.

Q: Can I have my wedding present back?

A: Yes, subject to lossage and depreciation from broken dishes.

Q: Did Ellie change her name?

A: Yes. Her name has been legally changed back to Mary Alyce Fountain.

Q: When was that?

A: The divorce was finalized in August 2002 because we're lazy.

Q: Where are you?

A: Chris is still in San Francisco; Ellie is now in Seattle.
